The EPA’s Efforts to Reduce Nutrient Pollution
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts to reduce nutrient pollution cover six programmatic areas: partnering and collaborating with stakeholders; providing technical and programmatic support to states, Tribes, and territories; overseeing regulatory programs; financing nutrient reduction activities; conducting research and development; and conducting outreach.
In 2022, the EPA’s Office of Water decided to adopt a One Water approach to accelerate the progress and find durable solutions to the challenges and costs associated with reducing nutrient pollution. This strategy focuses on deepening collaborative partners with agriculture, redoubling our efforts to support states, Tribes and territories to achieve nutrient pollution reductions from all sources, and utilizing the EPA’s Clean Water Act authorities to drive progress, innovation, and collaboration.
