Hurricane Helene
On September 27, 2024 Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region as a Category 4 storm before moving into Georgia with continued catastrophic category 2 winds early Friday morning. Life-threatening flash and urban flooding, including numerous significant landslides, occurred in the southern Appalachian region. Flooding also occurred in northwestern, northern, and southeastern Florida.
EPA continues to work closely with federal, state, local, and Tribal partners to respond to and help communities recover from Hurricane Helene. EPA is focused on providing support to water systems and is helping to clean up storm debris and hazardous materials. No releases related to the storm were reported from Superfund sites in the storm's path. The agency has personnel on the ground in regional and national operations centers who are offering support, guidance, and assistance to everyone in the storm’s path.
