Frequent Questions about the RTP Speakers Bureau
How far will speakers travel?
Most speakers limit travel to approximately 50 miles of the Raleigh-Durham, NC area. All travel is up to the discretion of the speaker and their supervisor. If the requestor makes the arrangements, presentations can be made remotely.
How many students can the EPA-RTP Speakers Bureau accommodate for presentations and activities?
Speakers can typically have a maximum of 30 students at a time for hands-on activities. If your group is larger, we will try to find to find a speaker who is able to accommodate the request. This maximum does not apply to groups visiting the EPA.
How do I find a speaker if I live outside North Carolina?
If you are outside the Research Triangle Park, NC area please see our regional offices page to contact your regional Environmental Education coordinator or speakers bureau for an in-person speaker. You can also search the map of EPA labs and research centers to find a place and contact information near you. Contact information can be found by zooming on your area and clicking on the blue balloons or by clicking the individually listed labs and research centers.
How do I request a speaker?
From the menu, you can either select a specific speaker/presentation or a hands-on activity. If you select the activity option, we will arrange for the presenter. You should receive a response from the speaker within a week to confirm date/time/locations details.
How far in advance do requests need to be submitted?
Requests should be submitted at least 4 weeks in advance, though we try to accommodate all requests when possible.
Is there a cost for a speaker?
The US EPA-Research Triangle Park Speakers Bureau is free.
Will I be guaranteed the requested speaker?
All speakers are volunteers and participate in the Speakers Bureau in addition to their jobs. We try our best to accommodate all requests, but speakers must balance speaking requests with their work responsibilities and may not always be available.
