Sania W. Tong Argao
Sania W. Tong Argao is the Environmental Justice (EJ) Coordinator for the U.S. EPA’s Office of Research and Development (ORD). She has an M.S. degree in Public Health Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago - School of Public Health's Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences Division. Her graduate work focused on environmental toxicology, and she studied the effects of hormonally active pesticides on prostate cancer cells in vitro. She majored in Biology/Pre-medicine and minored in Environmental Studies while an undergrad at Augustana College (Rock Island, IL). Sania began her career at the EPA through a two-year professional career development program (EPA Intern Program) that allowed her to complete five different rotations across the Agency. She conducted research on air pollutants such as particulate matter to support source apportionment modeling prior to becoming a quality assurance (QA) manager. Her work as a QA manager consisted of utilizing her scientific background to help her colleagues meet the requirements of our Agency’s quality policy, which is in place to help ensure sound scientific data is produced. Her current position as the ORD EJ Coordinator entails providing the essential coordination and technical support needed to increase the impact of ORD's scientific research and tools that aim to address environmental justice issues and concerns for our communities. She enjoys engaging with the community to inform them about environmental science topics, careers at the EPA, and her work as an EJ Coordinator.
