Improvements to EPA Permitting Through the Inflation Reduction Act
On August 16, 2022, the Inflation Reduction Act was signed into law, providing funds for investment on numerous critical infrastructure and energy initiatives, including streamlining and improving the environmental review and the permitting process.
EPA received $40 million in funding through Section 60115 of IRA to support EPA’s development of efficient, accurate, and timely permitting and environmental reviews. EPA is taking steps to hire and train staff, to improve public engagement and transparency, and to invest in information technology tools to improve its permitting processes. EPA is implementing each of these actions across its headquarters offices and regions.
Through this historic investment, EPA is improving the lives of millions of Americans by reducing pollution in neighborhoods where people live, work, play, and go to school. EPA's Investing in America page provides more information about IRA funding across EPA.
