Peer Review of 2024 Draft Risk Evaluation for 1,3-Butadiene
1,3-Butadiene is undergoing risk evaluation under the Toxic Substances Control Act. EPA is planning a virtual public meeting for the Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals (SACC) to review the draft risk evaluation for 1,3-butadiene from February 25-28, 2025. Register for the meeting here. You can register to listen in on the meeting at any time up until the end of the meeting on February 28.
If you would like to make oral comments during the February 25-28 SACC meeting, you must register and send a written version of your oral presentation to [email protected] by Tuesday, February 18 at 12:00 pm ET. Oral comments during the SACC meeting are limited to five minutes.
EPA will hold a virtual preparatory meeting on February 4, 2025, for the SACC and the public to consider and ask questions regarding the scope and clarity of the draft charge questions. If you would like to make oral comments during the preparatory meeting, you must register and send a written version of your oral presentation to [email protected] by Friday, January 31, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. ET. Oral comments during the preparatory meeting are limited to five minutes and should be focused on the clarity and scope of the charge questions only. Oral comments on the draft 1,3-butadiene risk evaluation should be presented during the February 25-28, 2025, SACC meeting.
On December 2, 2024, EPA released the draft risk evaluation for 1,3-butadiene and related documents for public comment and peer review. The documents are posted in docket EPA-HQ-OPPT-2024-0425 and are available for public comment until February 3, 2025. Follow the online instructions for submitting comments. Do not submit electronically any information you consider to be Confidential Business Information (CBI) or other information whose disclosure is restricted by statute. The SACC will discuss the draft risk evaluation and related documents during a virtual peer review public meeting from February 25-28, 2025. EPA will use feedback from the SACC and public to inform the final risk evaluation.
EPA will be soliciting comments from the reviewers on the approach and methodologies used in the draft risk evaluation. The SACC’s peer review will inform the Agency’s final risk evaluation under TSCA.
