Background

The Sixty-Second Street Dump Superfund site is located in Tampa, Florida. It includes an area used for the disposal of battery wastes and shredded auto parts in the 1960s and 1970s.

EPA placed the site on the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL) in 1983 because of contaminated debris, soil and groundwater resulting from past waste disposal operations.

By investigating site conditions, monitoring groundwater and undertaking Five-Year Reviews, EPA, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and the site’s potentially responsible parties (PRPs) continue to protect people and the environment from site contamination.
