Background

The 62-acre Medley Farm Drum Dump Superfund site is located in Gaffney, South Carolina.

It includes an area where parties stored drums of chemical wastes from 1973 to 1978. Releases of chemicals from the wastes placed on site contaminated groundwater and soil.

EPA placed the site on the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL) in 1989. EPA, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC), and the site’s potentially responsible parties (the PRP group) have investigated site conditions.
