Background

The 14-acre Lyman Dying site is located on a 12-acre peninsula in the southern portion of Lyman, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The site includes a 3.9-acre landfill area and a 4.5-acre wetland area. An industrial facility borders the site to the north. The Middle Tyger River borders the site to the south, east and west. Residential properties are located north and west of the site. An undeveloped area and James F. Byrnes High School are located south of the site. The Startex-Jackson-Wellford-Duncan Water District operates a municipal water treatment plant east of the site.
