Public Notice: §401 Clean Water Act Water Quality Certification for Discharges Related to the Big Sandy Rancheria Wastewater Improvements Project
Summary
Request for Comments on §401 Clean Water Act (CWA) Water Quality Certification for Discharges related to the Big Sandy Rancheria Wastewater Improvements Project.
Details
EPA Region 9 is evaluating a water quality certification for discharges associated with the Big Sandy Rancheria Wastewater Improvements Project in Fresno, California. The Big Sandy Rancheria of Mono Indians of California proposes to construct and operate wastewater collection and treatment system to protect the community water system from contamination and replace the existing individual septic tanks for residences and other non-residential buildings. The project will result in approximately 0.01 acre of temporary impacts to aquatic resources, including both wetlands and non-wetland waters of the U.S. All temporary impacts to aquatic resources would result from the construction of the wastewater collection system and would involve trenching through the ephemeral drainages and Backbone Creek at four locations to install the new sanitary sewer lines. EPA will decide whether to (1) certify as proposed; (2) certify with conditions; (3) deny or (4) waive certification of the proposed activities.
Location
The project site is situated in the Sierra Nevada foothills, approximately 1 mile east of Auberry and approximately 20 miles northeast of the Fresno-Clovis metropolitan area.
