EPA to Begin Barrier Wall Installation this Spring at Velsicol Chemical Superfund Site in St. Louis, Michigan
Availability session to be held Tuesday, March 18, from 4-7 p.m. at City Hall
CHICAGO (February 19, 2025) — This spring, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will begin to install a barrier wall to reduce the risk of soil and groundwater contamination flowing into the Pine River at the Velsicol Chemical Superfund site in St. Louis, Michigan—a critical component of EPA’s cleanup of the former plant site. EPA expects to complete installation this year.
During this time, residents will notice increased truck traffic bringing equipment and material to cleanup areas along North Street and North Watson Street. EPA will take steps to reduce construction noise and will work during normal business hours.
EPA is hosting an availability session about the Velsicol Chemical Superfund site on Tuesday, March 18, from 4 - 7 p.m. at City Hall, 300 N. Mill Street, St. Louis. The site team will provide more information on the barrier wall construction as well as next steps in the Superfund process.
EPA is coordinating closely with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy on the cleanup.
