U.S.-Mexico Demonstration of Fuel Switching on Ocean Going Vessels in the Gulf of Mexico
Through joint work with EPA from 2010-2020, the Mexican government explored international actions to reduce air pollution from ships near local communities. Mexico learned from the United States' experience, and worked toward the ratification of MARPOL Annex VI (an international air pollution agreement) and establishment of a Mexican Emission Control Area (ECA). This information may be helpful for other countries seeking to ratify MARPOL Annex VI and establish an ECA.
