Can a refiner certify finished gasoline using method D-4294 or D-5354-94 (Antek Oxidation-UV Fluorescence Method) instead of D-2622 for sulfur? Will EPA accept other methods for measuring total aromatics content such as using mid-IR instruments?
No. Again, alternate methods are not allowed for certification of the gasoline by the refiner or importer, with the exception of alternatives for oxygen/oxygenates and aromatics until January 1, 1997, but they can be used for downstream quality assurance testing if correlated with the regulatory method.(7/1/94)
