On May 23, 2024, EPA announced the denial of the application submitted by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management to allow the Alabama CCR permit program to operate in lieu of the federal CCR program.
On May 8, 2024, EPA finalized changes to the CCR regulations for inactive surface impoundments at inactive electric utilities and CCR management units. These changes advance EPA’s commitment to protecting communities, groundwater, waterways, drinking water, and the air from CCR contamination.
