ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE ON U.S.-MEXICO BORDER TO BE ASSESSED IN THREE-DAY ROUNDTABLE

     SAN FRANCISCO -- On Aug. 19-21, U.S. and Mexican citizens, officials, constituent groups and stakeholders will participate in a roundtable in National City, Calif., concerning environmental justice on the U.S.-Mexico border.  The goal is to develop recommendations to address environmental justice issues in the border region which will be submitted to the EPA Administrator.  Sessions will focus on the link between the environment and health, trade and indigenous people as well as labor and immigration issues.
             
          EPA and the National Environmental Justice Advisory Council (NEJAC) International subcommittee are co-sponsoring the roundtable.  NEJAC is composed of citizens who advise the EPA Administrator on environmental justice matters.  The roundtable will include presentations, panel discussions and other opportunities for public comments.

          The roundtable will be held at the Holiday Inn, 700 National City Blvd., and the Radisson Hotel, 801 National City Blvd., National City, Calif.  A public comment period will be held from 7 - 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Holiday Inn.  Registration begins at the Holiday Inn at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20 and the roundtable adjourns Saturday, Aug. 21, at 12:30 p.m.
