EPA AWARDS $332,000 ENVIRONMENTAL GRANT TO GRACE HILL SETTLEMENT HOUSE
EPA Region 7 in Kansas City, Kan., awarded Grace Hill Settlement House in St. Louis a $332,439 cooperative agreement grant today under the Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) program.
EPA Region 7 Administrator Jim Gulliford said, “CARE is a newly funded program sponsored by EPA. The program and funding will help establish a series of multimedia, community-based and community-driven projects to reduce local exposure to toxics. Region 7 looks forward to working in partnership with Grace Hill Settlement House and the citizens of St. Louis.”
The CARE program is designed to help communities, with EPA assistance, identify and address critical local environmental issues dealing with toxic risks. It will also help local community partnerships establish sustainable and measurable environmental improvements.
Grace Hill will use CARE funding to address poor air quality in north and south St. Louis. Grace Hill will be working with community leaders and citizens during the projects planning and implementation phases to improve air quality.
The Grace Hill organization includes seven neighborhood centers, two licensed day care centers, and a minority business center and manages eight urban Head Start sites serving 1,500 children.
Grace Hill's cooperative agreement (one of 12 selected from more than 160 proposals received nationwide) builds on the work Region 7 has done with the St Louis Community Air Project (CAP) Partnership.
