CHICAGO (Oct. 22, 2009) -U. S. Environmental Protection Agency recognized Kohler Co. recently as the WaterSense Manufacturing Partner of the Year for two years running. Kohler, a Wisconsin plumbing manufacturer received the award for its commitment to water efficiency. The company has promoted EPA's WaterSense and its WaterSense-labeled plumbing fixtures across the country.
Kohler spotlighted WaterSense through Save Water America , a Web site dedicated to educating homeowners about water efficiency. The company also supported Habitat for Humanity with a $1 million product donation and showcased WaterSense-labeled products at more than 30 screenings of the IMAX film Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk as it toured the country.
Kohler has collaborated with EPA WaterSense partners on regional campaigns including delivering "mobile restrooms" to consumer education events so that participants could flush WaterSense-labeled toilets first-hand.
By the end of 2008, more than 40 percent of all bathroom faucet models and 175 combinations of toilets for sale under the Kohler brand had earned the WaterSense label. In addition, showerheads, urinals and flushometer toilets which are not currently part of the WaterSense program are being developed.
More than 1,000 Watersense partners helped Americans save 9.3 billion gallons of water in 2008. Five were named 2009 partners of the year. EPA announced the winners during the inaugural awards banquet hosted by WaterSense and the Alliance for Water Efficiency during the WaterSmart Innovations conference in Las Vegas, Nev., earlier this month.
