(Boston, Mass. - March 5, 2008) Paul Olander of the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation was recently honored with a National 2007 Wastewater On-Site Technical Assistance and Operator Training Provider Award (“Enthusiasm Award”) by EPA.
EPA’s New England office formally acknowledged Paul at the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference at the Boston Copley Marriott Hotel on January 30th.
The National Clean Water Act, Section 104(g) Program award recognizes state and interstate agency personnel in the wastewater field who have provided invaluable and exceptional on-site technical assistance and training to municipal wastewater treatment operators and facilities.
Paul has provided essential operator training and on-site technical assistance to wastewater treatment plant operators in Vermont for many years. “I am very pleased to be honored by this award,” said Olander. “Everything that I have learned about wastewater I have learned from an operator”. Paul has the professional respect of not only his peers, but more importantly, wastewater treatment plant superintendents and operators throughout Vermont.
“The professionals providing on-site technical assistance and training to wastewater treatment plants play a crucial role in ensuring that our lakes and rivers are protected from unnecessary pollution,” said Robert W. Varney, regional administrator for EPA's New England Office. "I am proud to acknowledge Paul Olander’s contributions to keeping Vermont’s waterways clean.”
