EPA to Demolish Building in Gloversville

(#01093) New York, New York -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will begin demolition tomorrow, August 9, 2001, of a contaminated building at the site of the former Independent Leather Manufacturing Co. in Gloversville , New York. The main building is one of two on the site that are contaminated with chemicals used in the leather tanning process. EPA is demolishing the building because it is structurally unsound and it is unsafe to clean up contamination in the basement.
Members of the press can join EPA On-Scene Coordinator Paul Kahn , to view the demolition at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 9 . Meet at the EPA trailer on Main Street next to the building (330 South Main Street).
