PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a pesticide grant for $322,310 to the state of Delaware. This grant will enable the state to continue critical efforts to protect, enforce, certify and train workers to deal with pesticides.

“This grant will protect agricultural workers, endangered species, and groundwater in Delaware where agriculture is an important priority,” said Donald S. Welsh, regional administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.

This grant also pays for replacing laboratory equipment, pesticide inspections, compliance assistance, and ensuring applicators using hazardous pesticides are appropriately trained and certified.

EPA’s pesticides program in the mid-Atlantic region protects human health and the environment from risks posed by pesticides, and promotes safer means of pest control. Pesticides are found in almost every home, business, and school, as well as in parks and other public places.

EPA funds grant programs and partnerships with states, universities, companies, nonprofit organizations and community groups. These groups provide expertise and real-world knowledge to help answer tough questions related to pesticide use.
