Contact Information: Angela Bonarrigo, EPA Community Involvement Coordinator, (617) 918-1034

KINGSTON, N.H. – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, US Army Corps of Engineers and Environmental Chemical Corporation will host an open house on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kingston Town Hall (163 Main St. Kingston) to discuss upcoming cleanup activities at the Ottati & Goss / Kingston Steel Drum Facility, located on Route 125 in Kingston, NH. Details about the treatment process and the cleanup of the site will be provided. As part of the open house, a shuttle bus will be available for a one half hour site tour.

The Kingston Police Department will be working with ECC of Burlingame, CA, the contractors conducting the cleanup, to manage the increase in traffic anticipated as the cleanup work begins. Trucks will not enter or leave the site during the morning or evening rush hours. Cleanup of the site is expected to take approximately one year.

The site is located along both sides of State Highway 125, approximately three miles south of the town of Kingston, N.H. The area west of Rt 125 consists of the former Kingston Steel Drum and Ottati & Goss operations. Approximately 25,000 cubic yards of material contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCBs) will be excavated and be treated from wetlands and uplands on both sides of the highway.

The Ottati & Goss / Kingston Steel Drum Site was placed on the EPA's National Priorities List in 1983, making it eligible for federal funding to address contamination at the site. Previous actions taken at the site include the removal of approximately 4,000 drums of waste in the early 1980's, cleanup of the former Ottati & Goss facility, and removal of the former Kingston Steel Drum building.
