PHILADELPHIA -- The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded a $237,600 grant to build sewage collection lines for the Hudson, Pleasant, Laurel Run and the Gerhartville areas of Decatur Township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania.
The new collection system will eliminate failing on-lot septic systems and improve water quality in the township. Wastewater from the system will go to the Moshannon Valley Joint Sewer Authority treatment plant which has the capacity to accommodate the expected flows.
Construction of the Decatur Township collection system is complete. It was funded with a $150,000 from EPA in 1999. The federal grant will help the township reduce the debt created by constructing the new collection system, so less of those costs will be passed on to local users.
"We are pleased to help communities eliminate potential water pollution, especially when that water might be a drinking water source for the community, " said Bradley Campbell, EPA mid-Atlantic regional administrator.
Communities who need to improve sewage treatment or drinking water systems can contact Pennvest (Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority) at 717-787-8138 for information about loans from the state’s revolving loan funds.
