EPA TO ELIMINATE 30 MILLION POUNDS OF WATER POLLUTANTS DISCHARGED ANNUALLY FROM PHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURING

On Sept. 21, EPA published in the Federal Register final effluent guidelines and standards under the Clean Water Act for the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. The effluent limitations will eliminate nearly 30 million pounds of pollutants discharged annually to surface waters and publicly owned wastewater treatment facilities from pharmaceutical manufacturing. The rule is expected to cost the industry nearly $42 million a year. Additional information, including the Federal Register notice and supporting documents are located on the Internet at:
