The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is offering owners and operators of facilities with above-ground petroleum storage several short Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasure (SPCC) workshops in Idaho, February 25-March 6. The workshops will discuss the recently revised federal SPCC regulations, including the new requirements and criteria for determining who’s covered by the law. The workshops will also cover EPA's new SPCC “Expedited Compliance Program,” aimed at streamlining enforcement procedures with a reduced penalty schedule for certain facilities found in violation that achieve compliance within 30 days.
“Since the rules have changed, we’re encouraging owners and operators with above-ground petroleum storage tanks to attend a workshop in their area,” said Jim Werntz, EPA state director in Boise. “We want to help folks stay ahead of the regulatory curve and avoid costly penalties. By helping protect Idaho’s waters from petroleum leaks and spills, we all benefit.”
EPA’s Werntz also added that representatives from engineering and environmental consulting companies that prepare and certify SPCC Plans are also invited to attend.
