Dave King Selected as the New Head of EPA's Hudson River Field Office

(#04047) New York, N.Y. -- David H. King has been selected as the Director of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hudson River Field Office in Ft. Edward, N.Y. He joins EPA from his position as the Executive Director of SUNY's Center for Brownfield Studies. "Dave King brings to this critically important project decades of experience as an environmental manager and professional engineer," said Regional Administrator Jane M. Kenny. "He is the right person with the right experience. Dave's work in academia, government, and the corporate sector makes him uniquely qualified to maintain the project's momentum. He has a vision for a healthy and vital Hudson River for generations to come." As Director, Mr. King will manage EPA's Field Office in the Hudson Valley. The office provides public information services, and is a center for field operations and project data. It was created because EPA recognized the communities' need for easy access to information about the Hudson River PCBs Superfund site activities, and the desire for meaningful interaction with EPA staff and management. Mr. King will be assisted in the field office by the Community Involvement Coordinator Leo Rosales. Dave King said, "I'm very enthusiastic about joining EPA at this juncture of the cleanup project. Building on the exceptional legacy of my predecessor and friend, N.G. Kaul, I'm committed to working closely with the people of the Upper Hudson Valley, elected officials, and other interested individuals and groups in keeping this project moving forward. My door will always be open." Immediately prior to joining EPA, Mr. King served as Executive Director of the SUNY Center for Brownfield Studies. He developed programs to incorporate brownfields redevelopment principles and practices to the other academic disciplines within the SUNY system. He also led a team that provided direct technical support to municipalities on a host of environmental challenges they face. He will continue to be an Adjunct Professor in the College of Environmental Science and Forestry at SUNY. Mr. King has served in several state government positions, including as the Assistant Director for Solid and Hazardous Waste at the Department of Environmental Conservation. There he was responsible for the regulation of solid waste and the cleanup of active and inactive hazardous waste sites throughout the state. Mr. King also served in various positions in the private sector including as the Executive Director of Environmental Affairs at the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation. Mr. King is a resident of Rensselaer County. He holds a B.A. in Civil Engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in New York, Vermont and Mississippi. He starts his position with EPA on April 5th.
