EPA Administrator Leavitt to Address EPA Employees - First public speech will preview clean air plan

(12/01/03) - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Mike Leavitt will describe his approach to environmental progress on Tuesday, Dec. 2 in an address to EPA employees (open to the media). Administrator Leavitt’s speech, his first public remarks since being sworn into office on Nov. 6 will preview an agency work plan for cleaning up the nation’s air.

Leavitt has spent much of his first three weeks meeting employees and getting their feedback on agency priorities and how best to honor EPA’s mission of environmental protection. He will conclude a 10-region tour of EPA offices in the next several weeks.

Since taking the helm at EPA, Leavitt has emphasized a collaborative approach to environmental management. In discussions with EPA employees, Leavitt has repeatedly stated that “environmental protection needs to be more than an agency – it needs to be an ethic.”
