CHICAGO (March 11, 2008) - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 will present an update on its short- and long-term cleanup activities related to the former Grand Traverse Overall Supply facility, 10753 E. Cherry Bend Rd., Greilickville, Mich. The meeting will be Tuesday, March 18, 6:30 P.M., at Norris Elementary School Cafeteria, 10781 E. Cherry Bend Rd.
Short-term cleanup activities including demolition of the GTOS building have been ongoing since December 2007. EPA plans to begin excavation and disposal of contaminated soil from the property by late March.
A final long-term cleanup plan called a Record of Decision will be presented at the meeting. The recently approved plan involves additional excavation of some contaminated soil, ground-water treatment, continued operation of a soil-vapor extraction system at Norris Elementary School and institutional controls restricting future ground water and land use.
Persons needing special accommodations at the meeting should contact EPA Community Involvement Coordinator Don de Blasio, 800-621-8431, or [email protected].
