What: EPA Administrator Mike Leavitt will commend North Allegheny School District as a national model for cleaner school buses, and will announce a proposal for major new funding in the president’s 2005 budget for the Clean School Bus USA initiative to reduce school bus pollution.
01/29/2004 - Administrator Leavitt is scheduled to greet students arriving at the school at 8:45 a.m. and then participate in a ceremony to recognize the school’s clean school bus efforts and talk with 5th grade students about the importance of reducing diesel exhaust on school buses. He will display to the students the device being installed on their school buses, and explain how it works to reduce air pollution.
The North Allegheny School District is in the process of retrofitting its fleet of buses after competing successfully last year for EPA Clean School Bus USA funding. The district was one of only 17 nationwide to receive awards.
