FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Kansas City, Kan., June 5, 2008) - Two EPA Region 7 employees who successfully co-chaired the Agency's local 2007 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) annual charitable giving drive have received a special national recognition for their efforts.
Wendy Lubbe and Chris Taylor were presented the 2007 CFC Hero Award at ceremonies held May 30, 2008, at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington, D.C.
More than 250 individuals nationwide were nominated for the 2007 CFC Hero Awards, which recognize outstanding dedication, creativity, innovation and success among federal employees who volunteer to lead the annual charitable giving drive. Honored in the civilian employee category, Lubbe and Taylor were among only five federal employees to ultimately receive Hero Awards for 2007, joining honorees from the uniform military, civilian military, and postal services.
"Wendy and Chris, along with their team of Region 7 co-workers, devoted a great deal of time and energy to the 2007 campaign, and their hard work really showed in the results," Region 7 Administrator John Askew said. "We're tremendously proud that their successful leadership for our local campaign has been recognized on a national level."
EPA Region 7's CFC drive for 2007 raised a total of $122,796 in employee contributions that will help a wide array of local and national charitable causes. That amount was nearly 16 percent higher than Region 7's contribution total for 2006, and represented a donor participation rate of slightly more than half of all EPA employees in the region, also an increase over 2006.
Lubbe, of Overland Park, Kan., works as a program analyst in Region 7's Office of Policy and Management and has been employed by EPA since 1998. Taylor, of Parkville, Mo., joined EPA in 2006 and is employed as chief of Region 7's Infrastructure and Support Services Section.
