BALTIMORE - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently presented its prestigious Partnership Award to Falls Township in recognition of its collaborative approach to public safety. One of 18 award winners, Falls Township was recognized during EPA’s Emergency Preparedness and Prevention Conference held in Baltimore.
EPA’s mid-Atlantic region presents the partnership awards to companies, organizations, agencies or individuals who demonstrate exceptional creativity or innovation in emergency preparedness, planning and response.
EPA lauded Falls Township for creating a unique group composed of personnel from the fire service and from law enforcement who work together to identify and solve safety and environmental issues.
The group works closely with local industry to review current chemical emergency preparedness plans, and to conduct various inspections--some on a daily basis.
The organization has also worked to ensure that local police officers are specifically trained and equipped to inspect trucks for various safety violations. These joint inspections with environmental officials help to prevent leakage of hazardous materials during transport or dangerous loads of hazardous materials from entering the highways.
