DAVIS, W.Va. – The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $1.8 million grant to Davis, Tucker County to improve the town’s sewer system. The project will serve 351 residential customers and 51 commercial establishments.
The project will replace the combined sanitary and storm sewers with new separate sanitary and storm sewer lines, and replace deteriorated sewer lines with new sanitary sewer lines. The improvements will eliminate combined sewer overflows to the Blackwater River during periods of wet weather, and eliminate extraneous groundwater in the sewer system.
“Combined sewer systems are a major cause of water pollution problems in many municipalities nationwide. EPA believes that projects such as this will improve water quality,” said Bradley M. Campbell, EPA’s mid-Atlantic regional administrator.
The grant will pay for 100 percent of the $1, 757,949 project. Construction is expected to begin in August 2000, and will take approximately one year to complete.
