PHILADELPHIA (May 9, 2007) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s mid-Atlantic region presented the William T. Wisniewski Human Resources Achievement Award to Diane Ajl, of Philadelphia, at its annual Employee Recognition Ceremony on April 24.
This award is given to an employee who has significantly enhanced employee growth opportunities, positive working relationships and better human relations in the mid-Atlantic region. It is intended to honor the distinguished performance of an employee who not only accomplishes agency objectives but who does so with a concern for fellow employees.
Ajl, an attorney/supervisor, in the Office of Regional Counsel, was nominated for the award “enthusiastically” by her entire staff.
Here are some of the things people said: “she takes a personal interest in each member of her branch.” “She goes out of her way to learn about our interests and give us work that will challenge and excite us.” “She takes care of us not only as professionals, but as people.”
Last year’s winner, Rick Rogers, said that Ajl is the manager that everyone should want to have. “No matter how many cases are on her desk for review, when she meets with one of her staff, she focuses her complete attention on that person,” Rogers said.
In 2006 Ajl received the region’s Rainbow Award for her support of diversity and acceptance in the work force.
Ajl, who has been with the U.S. EPA since 1978, graduated in 1970 from Akiba Hebrew Academy, and received a bachelors degree from Barnard College in 1974. She graduated from Temple University Law School in 1977.
EPA’s mid-Atlantic region covers Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
