HEALTH EFFECTS RESEARCH LABORATORY SECOND ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM: `CHEMICAL MIXTURES AND QUANTITATIVE RISK ASSESSMENT'
The EPA Office of Research and Development's (ORD) Health Effects Research Laboratory (HERL) will hold an international scientific symposium Nov. 7-10 in Raleigh, N.C., on new advancements in research on the health effects of chemical mixtures and the importance of that knowledge for risk assessment. Presentations will include recent findings on cellular processes, metabolic processes, and tissue repair that help scientists better identify the nonadditive effects of chemical mixtures (the effects produced by the chemicals interacting as a mixture, which may differ from the effects expected based on knowledge of the individual chemicals). The symposium will be held at the North Raleigh Hilton Hotel and is the second in a series of yearly HERLsponsored international scientific symposiums on prominent health effects research issues. For further information on registration, contact Theresa Harris, HERL, at 919-541-2656. For further information on the symposium program, contact Dr. Jane Ellen Simmons, HERL, at 919-541-7829.
