PHILADELPHIA (June 11, 2008) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s mid-Atlantic region presented the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) Award to Andrew Kreider of Schuylkill Township at the annual employee recognition ceremony on May 13.

Established in 1961, CFC is the world’s largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign. Nearly four million federal employees and military personnel are able to contribute to the charities of their choice during the annual charity drive. It is the only campaign authorized to solicit and collect contributions from federal employees in the workplace.

Andrew Kreider volunteered to head up the 2007 CFC campaign for EPA’s mid-Atlantic Region, and through his leadership the region raised almost $124,000 for non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world. Nationally, a record $273 million was raised last year.

Assistant Regional Administrator James Newsom said that Kreider made the 2007 CFC campaign the best ever through his great sense of humor and the many creative events designed to encourage employee giving. “Through a team spirit day, raffle prizes, speakers from charitable causes, and bake sales, Andrew and his key campaign workers were able to raise $124,752.71,” Newsom said.

Kreider, who has worked at EPA for 11 years, graduated from Devon Preparatory School in 1992 and graduated from Penn State University’s Schreyer Honors College with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1996.

“Serving as chairperson for our annual CFC campaign was an amazing experience,” said Kreider, who is an environmental project manager. “Helping hundreds of people contribute thousands of dollars to dozens of charities, it was the most rewarding and inspirational task I’ve been given since coming to EPA.”

EPA’s mid-Atlantic region covers Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
