(PHILADELPHIA, October 24, 2008) Donald S. Welsh, Regional Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s mid-Atlantic Region, today presented the Town of Easton, Md. and Easton Utilities with EPA’s regional award for excellence in the operation and maintenance of the town’s wastewater treatment plant.
Many significant improvements in our nations water quality can be attributed to better wastewater treatment. This award recognizes the outstanding job that the people of the Town of Easton, plant staff, and trainers are doing to operate a state-of-the-art treatment plant, said Welsh.
EPA’s award honors the staff involved in the day-to-day operations of the facility, and recognizes local officials for their commitment to maintain and protect their communitys environment. The town is receiving the award in the most improved category, which consists of facilities that have received technical assistance through the Clean Water Act operator training program.
Welsh said the management and staff of the Easton wastewater treatment plant are to be congratulated for their professionalism and determination. He said its evident that the staff involved in the operations of the facility are highly trained and devoted to the environment.
EPA reviews mountains of data and inspects the facilities to determine the winners of this award. Award recipients are selected for their performance in complying with wastewater discharge permits, maintenance management, laboratory practices, personnel training, and public awareness.
