Release Date: 05/06/2004
Contact Information: Dawn Harris-Young, (404) 562-8421, [email protected]
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host its annual Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) National Corrective Action Conference at the Sheraton Safari in Orlando, Florida. The purpose of the conference is to build upon Regional and National RCRA Cleanup Reforms. The conference will bring together stakeholders involved with cleanups to provide a forum for open and frank discussion on corrective action issues, and to exchange information and experiences in streamlining the corrective action process.

Marianne Horinko, Assistant Administrator for the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response will recognize several companies which recently agreed to take the Environmental Indicator (EI) Pledge. The EI pledge states that the company agrees to meet environmental indicators for human health and groundwater at all of its RCRA Corrective Action facilities by the end of 2005 as required by the Government Performance and Results Act baseline.

EPA's RCRA Corrective Action Program addresses the stabilization and cleanup of facilities nationwide through the use of some innovative and streamlining tools and processes to provide a protective environment for all. Dramatic progress has been made to date with a total of 1004 facilities (which represents 59 % of the 1714 baseline facilities) achieving a "yes" for both environmental indicator goals by 2005. State partners are working with industries and EPA Regions to make this happen.
