EPA SEEKS PUBLIC COMMENT ON THE PROPOSED PLAN FOR TREATMENT OF CONTAMINATED GROUNDWATER AT THE ABERDEEN PESTICIDE DUMPS SITE IN ABERDEEN, NORTH CAROLINA

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today the public comment period regarding the proposed cleanup plan for Operable Unit #5 (OU5) of the Aberdeen Pesticide Dumps Site in Moore County, Aberdeen, North Carolina. The public comment period began on January 18, 1999 and will extend until midnight February 17, 1999.
OU5 consists of McIver Dump and the Route 211 area. Both areas were used for the disposal of pesticide products. Contaminants of concern are alpha- and beta-benzenehexachloride (BHC).
The public is invited to comment on the proposed cleanup plan. Written comments must be postmarked no later than the ending date and should be addressed to Diane Barrett, Community Involvement Coordinator, U.S. EPA Region 4, 11th Floor, 61 Forsyth St, S.W., Atlanta, Georgia 30303. Copies of documents related to the proposed cleanup plan are available for public review at Aberdeen Town Hall, 115 North Poplar Street, Aberdeen, North Carolina 28315.
A public meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on February 4, 1999 at the Aberdeen Fire Station to receive oral comments.
