PHILADELPHIA – The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency presented the Upper Montgomery Joint Authority in Montgomery County, Pa. with an award for excellence in operations and maintenance of it’s wastewater treatment facility.
The award honors the staff involved in the day-to-day operations of the facility, and recognizes local officials for their commitment to maintain and protect their community’s environment.
“Many significant improvements in our nation’s water quality can be attributed to better wastewater treatment. This award recognizes the outstanding job that the people at the Upper Montgomery facility are doing to protect the environment,” said Victoria Binetti, associate director for municipal assistance in the water protection division of EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.
The award is presented annually to the best municipal wastewater treatment facilities in EPA’s mid-Atlantic region, which encompasses 2,059 facilities in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
EPA reviews mountains of data to determine the winners of this award. Award recipients are selected for their performance in complying with wastewater discharge permits, maintenance management, laboratory practices, personnel training, and public awareness needs.
Binetti said the management and staff are to be congratulated for their professionalism and determination. He said it’s evident that the staff involved in the day-to-day operations of the facility are highly trained and devoted to the environment.
