PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, in partnership with state environmental agencies in the mid-Atlantic region and the electronics industry, announced today the kick-off of an electronics recycling program called eCycling. The region’s first-of-a-kind partnership will allow residents and small businesses the opportunity to reuse or recycle old computer equipment and televisions.
The new recycling program offers a safe, cost effective disposal method for replacing obsolete televisions and computers with more state-of-the-art systems. Also, eCycling helps protect the environment by extending the life of electronic equipment instead of disposing of it in precious landfill space.
Electronics equipment that can be recycled includes: televisions, computers, monitors, printers, keyboards, and scanners.
eCycling is a collaborative effort among the EPA and environmental agencies in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, the District of Columbia and the electronics industry to encourage electronic recycling. A list of state contacts is attached.
In the coming weeks, local counties and municipalities will offer collection opportunities for residents to drop off their computer equipment and TV monitors at specific locations. Contact your local state environmental agency for the collection location nearest you.
