$582,000 Grant to Buhler, Kan., for Drinking Water Project

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Kansas City, Kan., May 26, 2010) - EPA has awarded $582,000 to Buhler, Kan., to upgrade the drinking water system.
EPA Region 7 Administrator Karl Brooks said, "EPA is committed to helping Kansas communities get safe, clean water. These water infrastructure funds will partially fund the construction project, which is estimated to cost $1.2 million.”
The purpose of the project is to construct new equipment to remove arsenic and to install replacement pumps at the existing water treatment plant. A sewer extension also will be constructed and the existing storage tank will be repainted to extend its useful life.
EPA oversees the protection of water quality and public health. The Agency is working with community leaders and the public to meet the growing needs and demands of our limited water resources. EPA remains committed to developing innovative and sustainable solutions for managing and financing infrastructure with public and private partners.
