(Boston, Mass. - March 5, 2008) The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) was recently honored with a National 2007 Wastewater On-Site Technical Assistance and Operator Training Provider Award (“Spark Plug Award”) by EPA.
EPA’s New England office formally acknowledged Thomas Groves, Charles Conway, Donald Kennedy, and James Laliberte of NEIWPCC at the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference at the Boston Copley Marriott Hotel on January 30th.
The National Clean Water Act, Section 104(g) Program award recognizes state and interstate agency personnel in the wastewater field who have provided invaluable and exceptional on-site technical assistance and operator training to municipal wastewater treatment facilities. “It is very gratifying for our efforts to be recognized in this way,” Groves said. “By taking a regional approach to training and technical assistance, we feel we’ve been able to accomplish a great deal with a relatively small amount of funding.”
NEIWPCC has provided essential on-site technical assistance and operator training to wastewater treatment plant operators in New England and New York for many years. NEIWPCC has the professional respect of not only its peers, but more importantly, wastewater treatment plant superintendents and operators throughout New England and New York.
“The professionals providing technical assistance, training, and certification assistance to wastewater treatment plants play a crucial role in ensuring that our lakes and rivers are protected from unnecessary pollution,” said Robert W. Varney, regional administrator for EPA's New England Office. "I am proud to acknowledge NEIWPCC’s contributions to keeping New England’s waterways clean.”
