WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – How to prepare for any type of hazardous material incident will be the subject of an upcoming seminar “Hazmat Transportation Incidents - Are You Really Prepared?” scheduled for August 14-16 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
The three-day seminar, produced by the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and co-sponsored by the Transcaer Committee of the Chemical Manufacturers Association, will be held at the Woodlands Inn and Resort, 1073 Highway 315, Wilkes-Barre.
Transportation incidents represent one of the most likely scenarios that emergency responders will face. Expert speakers from across the country will address the full range of possible transportation incidents, from cargo planes and trucks to pipelines and ships, and help first responders and emergency managers ensure their response plans are adequate.
A special feature of the seminar is a full day of exercises with the unique, three-dimensional tabletop model, “Stress City.” Developed by Steve Hardman, a fire chief from Nitro, West Virginia, Stress City takes a hands-on approach in training emergency responders and planners. Attendees will participate in several transportation incident scenarios designed to
improve their skills and response capabilities.
EPA is also planning similar seminars on hazardous material transportation incidents for Sept. 25-27 in Erie, Pa. and for Nov. 28-30 in Norfolk, Va.
