ATLANTA – Five companies in Region 4 were among the Top 20 Companies recognized on the second annual list of Best Workplaces for Commuters from the Fortune 500 Companies announced by EPA October 19, 2005. These companies are being recognized for their role in offering excellent commuter benefits that reduce fuel consumption, vehicle emissions and traffic congestion across the country.
Oracle, Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Wyeth have all met EPA’s National Standard of Excellence by offering commuter benefits, such as subsidized transit passes and vanpool vouchers, tele-work and rideshare programs, bike lockers, showers, and an emergency ride home to the highest percentage of their U.S. Workforce.
Several other businesses in the Region were among the nearly 90 companies that offered offering outstanding commuter benefits to their employees at one or more work sites across the country. Mirant, Southern Company and Time Warner offer excellent commuter benefits to at least 10 percent of their U.S. workforces, qualifying them for the Best Workplaces for Commuters designation. Office Depot and the Georgia-Pacific Corporation also received the designation but offer benefits to less than 10 percent of their U.S. workforces.
