EPA Awards $2.5 Million to D.C. for Water Improvement Projects

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $2,533,595 to the District of Columbia to help administer the district’s construction grants program that supplies funding for wastewater and drinking water facilities.

“We are pleased to provide resources to the District of Columbia. This joint effort is an important contribution to improving the water quality within the District of Columbia, particularly in the neighborhoods next to Potomac and Anacostia Rivers, as well as assuring safe drinking water,” said Thomas Voltaggio, acting regional administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.

The funds will be used by D.C.’s Department of Health to administer and provide oversight to the district’s construction grants program that supports construction of wastewater and drinking water facilities with money from D.C.’s annual Congressional allotments. The district contracted the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to oversee the project.

The construction projects are administered by the D.C. Water and Sewer Authority and are funded in part with EPA grants.
